Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS STORM BACK IN FOURTH TO DEFEAT POST FOR FIRST TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY, 72-68

Waterbury, CT - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team came from behind to secure a non-conference win on the road against Post University earlier today as they defeated the Eagles, 72-68.  The Dolphins improve to 2-2 on the season with the victory and the Eagles remain winless at 0-4.  The win is also the first for the Dolphins against Post in program history.  They previously lost to the Eagles in 2019, 2021, and earlier this year.

The Eagles built a lead as large as twelve in the opening quarter, but the Dolphins were able to remain within striking distance behind the scoring of Kyra Rose.  Rose scored five in the opening quarter including two key baskets in the closing minute of the period to cut the lead to single-digits.  The Dolphins pulled to within five at the midway point in the second quarter on a Dana Phelan three-pointer, but a 10-0 Eagles run extended their lead all the way to a game-high 15 points.  By halftime, the Dolphins had cut the deficit to eleven, but CSI did not shoot above 33% in either of the first two quarters.

The CSI shooting numbers from the field dipped even further in the third, but the Dolphins remained in the game behind the ability of Jenalyse Alarcon to get to the free-throw line.  The senior attempted 17 free throws in the game while shooting an efficient 5-7 from the floor.  As a team, the Dolphins went to the line 21 times in the third, making 15 of those attempts.  This brought the Dolphins to within seven after 30 minutes and set the stage for a comeback effort in the fourth.  Led by ten points in the quarter from Alarcon, they quickly erased their deficit and took the lead with five minutes left to play.  After going in front by one, the Dolphins would not trail again until falling behind by one in the final 90 seconds.  However, Alarcon put the Dolphins ahead for good from the line, and the Dolphins closed out a 72-68 from the stripe.

Alarcon led the Dolphins in scoring yet again with 24 points, her third time scoring 20 points or more in the team's first four games.  The senior also added another 5 rebounds and recorded her fourth straight game with at least 3 steals.  Rose finished with 15 before fouling out, and both Amber Abusbeih and Phelan scored in double-figures as well.  Neither team shot well from the field, but the Dolphins were able to outlast the Eagles behind 15 more makes from the foul line.

The Dolphins wrap up a three-game stretch on non-conference road games on Wednesday when they visit Wilmington University.  Tip off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
