Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS CAN'T MATCH EAGLES THREE-POINT SHOOTING IN DEFEAT, 86-71

Waterbury, CT - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team fell to Post University earlier tonight as the Eagles defeated the Dolphins behind a barrage of three-pointers, 86-71.  The Dolphins fall to 2-3 on the season with the defeat and the Eagles improve their record to 4-1.  The win for the Eagles also gives them a 1-0 lead in the all-time series as tonight marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

The Eagles came out red-hot from beyond the arc and immediately jumped out to a double-digit lead in the opening minutes.  Of the first five Post baskets, four came from three-point range.  The Eagles went ahead by ten for the first time just over three minutes into the first half, and they extended their lead to as many as 21 with nine minutes to go before halftime.  Facing their largest deficit of the game, the Dolphins responded with a 7-0 run, but once again a Post three-pointer halted the CSI momentum.  The Dolphins continued to battle back into the game, and they would trim the deficit to eleven entering the intermission.

Just as the Eagles started off strong in the first half, the Dolphins came out strong in the second half.  Led by Messiah Mallory, the Dolphins pulled to within five with seventeen minutes remaining.  However, the Eagles once again built their lead back up to double-figures behind their outside shooting.  After ten threes in the first half, the Eagles connected on another seven threes in the second half.  This kept the Dolphins from making another run late, and CSI never got any closer than nine during the final ten minutes of the game.

Justin Zieris once again led the Dolphins in points with 15 followed by Asa Kone with 14.  JJ Chestnut scored 13 and Mallory was the last of four Dolphins in double-figures.  The Dolphins finished the game shooting just 3-15 from beyond the arc while the Eagles shot 17-34 from downtown.  Five Eagles scored in double-figures as well led by Deng Deang with 23.  Deang also led the Eagles in three-pointers made with five.

The Dolphins will be looking to bounce back when they take the court at home on Saturday at 3:00 PM against Bentley University.
