Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

CHESTNUT DELIVERS GAME-WINNER IN CLOSING SECONDS OF DOLPHINS WIN OVER BENTLEY, 84-82

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team secured a thrilling win earlier today as they held on to defeat Bentley University in the closing seconds, 84-82.  After leading by as many as 15, the Falcons came from behind to overtake CSI early in the second half.  However, the Dolphins went in front for good with 1.6 seconds remaining as JJ Chestnut delivered a game-winning bank shot in the closing moments.  The win improves the Dolphins to 3-3 on the season and is their first in program history against Bentley.  The Falcons are now 1-4 on the year following the defeat and their all-time series against the Dolphins is now even at 1-1.

The Dolphins got off to an incredible shooting start that propelled them to a double-digit first-half lead.  In addition to the hot shooting CSI electrified The Tank with a pair of highlight reel dunks from Asa Kone.  Meanwhile, the scoring of Mallory, Chestnut, and Aaron Goldstein helped the Dolphins go ahead by double-figures for the first time with five minutes to go in the half.  That lead would grow as large as fifteen, but the Setters would trim the deficit down to nine by halftime.

After shooting well from the outside in the first, the Dolphins went cold from the perimeter in the second half.  This opened the door for Pace to work their way back into the game, and Bentley took less than six minutes to take their first lead of the game, 54-53.  The two teams then traded leads for the remainder of the game with neither side going ahead by more than four the rest of the way.  With just 1:22 to go, the Dolphins went ahead by four, but seconds later, the Falcons pulled to within one on a Aaron Latham three.  Continuing a trend of dominance in the paint for the Dolphins, Chestnut put CSI ahead by three with a layup on the next trip down the floor.  However, Pace tied the score on a Cash McClure three out of a timeout.  Finally, it was Chestnut who dealt the final blow with a tough spinning hook shot off the glass in the closing seconds of an 84-82 Dolphins win.

Chestnut led the Dolphins with 24 points followed by Mallory with 17.  Goldstein and Kone both scored in double-figures as well.  In a game that was decided by just two points, the Dolphins handily won the rebounding battle and outscored Bentley by 18 in the paint.  McClure finished just three assists shy of a triple-double for the Falcons in the loss with 23, 12, and 7.

The Dolphins will next be in action one week from tomorrow when they visit Jefferson University on December 1st at 2:00 PM.
