Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

RAMS FEND OFF DOLPHINS COMEBACK WITH GAME-WINNING THREE IN FINAL SECOND, 65-62

Philadelphia, PA - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team saw a second-half comeback end with a crushing defeat in the final seconds of a 65-62 loss against Jefferson University.  After erasing a late double-digit deficit, the Dolphins tied the score on a Justin Zieris three with fourteen seconds remaining.  However, the Rams responded with a tightly contested Sean Fullerton three leaving less than one second on the clock.  Unable to get a shot off, the Dolphins fell to 3-4 with the defeat.  The Rams end the day 5-2 and even up the all-time series with the Dolphins at one game apiece.

After Aaron Goldstein opened the game with a three-pointer, the Rams immediately responded with an early 7-0 run.  From here, the Rams held the lead for much of the half, but the Dolphins would get even with just over five minutes to play before halftime.  The Dolphins would go on to take their first lead since the opening minutes behind their own 7-0 run, and the CSI lead would grow to six by the end of the first half.  Much like the first half, the Rams seized control of the game in the opening minutes of the second half.  A six-point CSI lead turned into a two-point deficit at the 16:33 mark in the second half, and the Rams extended their lead all the way to twelve with under eight minutes to play.

Facing their largest deficit of the game, the Dolphins pulled to within five behind another 7-0 run.  Consecutive baskets then put the Rams back up ten, but JJ Chestnut and Aaron Goldstein combined to score five unanswered for the Dolphins.  Two straight baskets by Messiah Mallory then pulled the Dolphins to within three, but it wasn't until there were fourteen seconds remaining that the Dolphins finally got even on a Zieris three.  With less than five seconds to go, the Rams would get the ball to Fullerton in heavy traffic.  From the corner, Fullerton connected on a tough shot to give the Rams the lead one last time, and Jefferson would take the win, 65-62.

Goldstein Mallory and Chestnut all scored in double-figures for the Dolphins, but CSI shot just 36% in the game as a team.  The Rams shot 44% as a team including 46% from beyond the arc.  The Dolphins did hold a distinct advantage from the free throw line finishing the game 14-18 from the stripe.  The Rams were just 3-8 from the line, all coming in the second half.

The Dolphins will next be in action at home on Friday night when they open conference play against Daemen University.  Tip off at The Tank is scheduled for 7:30 PM.  Tickets will be required for all CSI Basketball home games beginning on Friday.  Purchase tickets for all remaining home games at the link below or visit csidolphins.com/tickets.
