FIVE PROGRAM RECORDS FALL IN TWO-DAY, SIX-TEAM CSI INVITE

11/23/2024 8:00:00 PM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Swimming & Diving Team hosted the largest home meet of the Division II era during the past 48 hours as they welcomed in five other Swimming & Diving programs for the 2024 CSI Invite.  Returning from last year's meet were ECC program Roberts Wesleyan University, Mount Saint Mary College, and Sarah Lawrence College.  Participating for the first time were Baruch College and fellow NE-10 program St. Michael's College.  St. Michael's won both the men's and women's meets with scores of 187 and 198.5.  The Dolphins placed second in the men's meet followed by Roberts Wesleyan, Baruch, and Mount Saint Mary.  In the women's meet, Roberts Wesleyan placed second followed by the Dolphins, Gryphons, Knights, and Bearcats.  As part of their association with the East Coast Conference, the head-to-head winner between Roberts Wesleyan and CSI was awarded a championship banner from the ECC.  The CSI men won that head-to-head matchup while the women of Roberts Wesleyan took home the banner in that matchup.

The meet began on Friday evening and the CSI men wasted no time setting the first CSI program record of the weekend.  In the 200 Free Relay, the four-man team of William KwanVlad SiniagovskiiAndi Bajollari, and Anthony Attenborough set a new record with a time of 1:26.77.  The Dolphins then secured several more individual top-five finishes throughout the night beginning with Nicholas Tartaglione in the 500 Free.  For the women, Aurelia Barbagallo took fifth in the 200 IM as well.  William Kwan earned a bronze finish in the 200 IM soon after, and Julian Lopez finished immediately behind him in fourth.  Jessica Johnson then bested her own program record in the 50 Free with a time of 24.68, good for second overall.  Attenborough and Siniagovskii then took second and third in the same event moments later, and both the men and women placed second to close the night in the 400-Yard Medley Relay.  Following the final swim of the night, Jacqueline DeFranco placed third for the women in 3-Meter Diving while Matt Bernstein placed second for the men.

Day two of the meet opened with a first-place finish for another CSI relay as the women took gold in the 200 Medley Relay.  The men then matched that first-place finish with one of their own in the same event before Kwan and Lopez each placed in the top three in the 400 IM.  Barbagallo then took fourth in the 100 Fly for the women while Attenborough and Tartaglione placed second and fourth for the men.  Morgan Novello placed fifth in the 200 Free that followed and the CSI women added to that with a first-place finish from Johnson in the 100 Breast.  David Fayngeth placed second in that same event for the men and Nicole Conroy earned a silver for the Dolphins in the next event, the 100 Back.  Siniagovskii earned the men gold in the 100 Back as well to close out the morning's swim session.  Jordan Swanson and DeFranco placed third and fourth for the women while Bernstein placed second for the men during the afternoon's 1-Meter Diving Session.

The Dolphins first entered the top three during the evening session with second and third-place finished by Siniagovskii and Lopez in the 200 Back.  However, Johnson topped that for the women with a first-place finish and program record in the 100 Free posting a time of 53.65.  This once again narrowly bested her own mark set earlier this year.  Attenborough also added a gold in the same event with a time of 47.12, and Kwan took first in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:14.89.  The fourth program record of the weekend was then set by Barbagallo in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:21.09 before Tartaglione placed second in that event for the men.  Finally, the meet concluded with a record-setting 400 Free Relay for the women.  Katherine Ebrahim, Novello, Barbagallo, and Johnson combined to post a time of 3:47.92.  In the final heat of the night, the CSI men would place second in the event, just two seconds off the first-place pace.

The Dolphins will have two weeks off before returning home for a pair of NE-10 meets in their next two outings.  First, they host their final meet of 2024 when they face Southern Connecticut State University at The Tank on December 7th at 1:00 PM.
