DOLPHINS WIN STREAK HALTED AT HOME BY CHARGERS, 76-55

11/26/2024 10:00:00 PM

Box Score Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team saw their three-game halted at The Tank earlier tonight as they fell to the Chargers of Dominican University - New York, 76-55.  The Dolphins drop to 4-3 on the season with the loss and the Chargers improve to 6-1 with the victory.  Dominican takes an 8-2 lead in the all-time series with the win and improves to 2-0 against CSI since the Dolphins became a Division II program.

The Chargers got off to a red-hot start shooting from the outside in the opening quarter and went in front by thirteen at the end of one.  CSI was able to remain within striking distance thanks in large part to a pair of threes by Dana Phelan, two of three Dolphin threes in the opening quarter.  After allowing 27 points in the first, CSI allowed just eleven in the second.  Late in the quarter, CSI pulled to within seven, but the Chargers scored the last five points of the half to take a twelve-point lead into the break.

After a poor shooting performance in the first half, the Dolphins continued to struggle with shooting efficiency in the second half.  CSI was held to just eleven points in the third quarter, and the Chargers took a 20-point lead into the final period.  Dominican would go on to finish the game shooting 12-27 from beyond the arc allowing them to build a lead as large as 27 in the fourth.  Despite generating open looks throughout the night, the Dolphins could not connect on enough shots to remain close, and Dominican went on to take the win by 21.

The Dolphins shot just shy of 33% from the field and finished the game just 6-24 from beyond the arc.  The Chargers built their lead behind stellar outside shooting finishing 12-27 from deep.  Tanasha Mills led the way for Dominican with 20 points and Kyra Rose led the Dolphins in scoring with 13.

The Dolphins continue their homestand on Sunday at 1:00 PM when they host East Stroudsburg University on Pediatric Cancer Awareness Day.  The Go4TheGoal Foundation will supply yellow laces for the Dolphins to wear in support of children battling cancer.  More information on how to support the Go4TheGoal initiative will be available in our gameday preview on Sunday.
