Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS SEE LEAD GET AWAY IN FOURTH QUARTER OF LOSS TO HOLY FAMILY, 65-58

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team wrapped up the 2024 Conference Challenge earlier today as they took on the Tigers of Holy Family University.  After trailing by one at halftime, the Dolphins took a five-point lead into the fourth behind a strong third quarter.  However, the Tigers scored 22 in the final period holding the Dolphins to just 10 as Holy Family took the win, 65-58.  The Dolphins fall to 1-1 through their first two games and the Tigers improve to 2-0 on the year.  The Tigers also take a 4-0 lead in the all-time series with the victory.

The two teams traded leads for much of the first half, but Jenalyse Alarcon continued her path to 1000 career points with 15 in the first half.  Her first-half performance was punctuated by a buzzer-beating layup in the closing seconds of the second quarter and the Dolphins went into the half down by just one.  As a team, the Dolphins shot well above the 40% mark during the first half, but CSI never led by more than three points.

Following the break, the Dolphins put together their best run of the game and went ahead by as many as six in the third quarter.  Led by eight points from Kyra Rose in the quarter and two key baskets from Amber Abusbeih, the Dolphins built their largest lead of the game following a 9-2 scoring run.  Late in the period, the Tigers got as close as one, and in the fourth, Holy Family opened the period on an 11-0 run.  The Dolphins scored for the first time in the quarter with just over five minutes remaining, but CSI would not get any closer than four the rest of the way in a 65-58 defeat.

Alarcon led the Dolphins in scoring with 17 and Alexa Quirolo finished with 15 points behind 4-6 shooting from beyond the arc.  Rose joined them in double-figures with 12 and the junior also grabbed eight rebounds.  After stellar shooting for the first three quarters, the Dolphins shot just 3-16 during the final 10 minutes.  Jessica Riepe led Holy Family in scoring with 13 and two more Tigers, Skyler Searfoss and Taylor Hinkle, finished with 11.

The Dolphins will be on the road for each of their next three games beginning on Wednesday at Bloomfield.  Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
