DOLPHINS DROP CONFERENCE OPENER AT HOME AGAINST DAEMEN, 67-47

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team dropped their conference opener at The Tank earlier tonight as they lost to Daemen University by a final score of 67-47.  The Dolphins are now 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play following the defeat.  The Wildcats remain unbeaten at 6-0 on the season and are 1-0 in conference play.  Daemen ended a streak of two consecutive losses to CSI in the regular season and has now won back-to-back games against the Dolphins including the postseason.  Daemen takes a 6-2 lead in the all-time series with the victory.

The Dolphins jumped out to an early 5-3 lead on a Blake Wilson three-pointer, but the Dolphins would never lead again beyond that point.  Daemen went on an 11-0 scoring run from there and extended their lead to as many as thirteen points late in the first half.  The Dolphins would score the final basket before the break to cut the Daemen lead to eleven, but the Dolphins were held to just 33% shooting in the first twenty minutes.  The Dolphins were also plagued by second-chance points, and both areas remained a struggle in the second half.

Following halftime, the Dolphins were held to just 23% shooting the rest of the way.  This, combined with more second-chance points for the Wildcats, never allowed the Dolphins to pull to within single digits again.  The Dolphins would get back to within ten on more than one occasion, but Daemen would go on to win by twenty, 67-47.

JJ Chestnut led the Dolphins in scoring with 13 points and was the only Dolphins with more than three made field goals.  He was also the only Dolphin to connect on multiple threes as the team shot just 6-22 from beyond the arc.  Similarly, they held Daemen to 4-22 shooting from the outside, and they won the turnover battle 17-16.  However, the disparity on the glass and poor overall shooting were too much for the Dolphins to overcome in their second straight loss.

The Dolphins will get a chance to bounce back quickly when they take on D'Youville University on Sunday at 3:00 PM.
