Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

CHRISTIAN TAYLOR JOINS WALL OF 1000-POINT SCORERS AHEAD OF DOLPHINS LOSS TO SETTERS

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team fell to the Setters of Pace University in their final home game of 2024 earlier tonight at The Tank.  After finishing the first half within striking distance, the Dolphins could not close the gap in the second half of a 78-46 defeat.  The loss drops the Dolphins to 5-7 on the year and Pace remains perfect at 12-0.  The CSI lead in the all-time series narrows to 5-3, and Pace has now won three of the four meetings since the Dolphins moved to NCAA Division II.

Ahead of tonight's game, the Dolphins celebrated the career of former Dolphin Christian Taylor who scored over 1000 points in just three years of game action with the Men's Basketball program.  The former CUNYAC Champion and CUNYAC Player of the Year returned to The Tank to have his number added to the wall of 1000-point scorers and was reunited with his former head coach, T.J. Tibbs.  Taylor finished his career with 1099 points and combined to score over 1000 points in just two years during his sophomore and junior seasons.

The Setters started strong scoring eight of the game's first ten points, and Pace would take their first double-digit lead with 13:45 remaining in the half.  Still trailing by ten at the midway point of the half, the Dolphins connected on consecutive threes from Justin Zieris and Shemar Latty.  CSI would pull to within four on two separate occasions, but they would not get any closer than that before halftime.  After seeing their lead cut to 26-22, the Setters scored eleven of the final thirteen points to close the half.  This sent the game to half with the Setters leading 37-24, and the Dolphins were held to just 30% shooting during the first twenty minutes.  However, the CSI defense also held Pace well below their season shooting numbers and remained within striking distance at the break.

The CSI shooting struggles continued into the second half while the Pace shooting drastically improved from their first-half numbers.  The Setters would go on to shoot over 65% from the field and over 57% from beyond the arc in the second half.  This allowed them to quickly grow their lead to twenty with over eleven minutes to play.  That lead would continue to grow for the remainder of the game as the Dolphins could not break out of their shooting slump.  This allowed Pace to secure a comfortable victory, 78-46.

JJ Chestnut led CSI in scoring and was the only Dolphin in double-figures with 11 points.  Three Setters scored in double-figures led by Jabari Nurse with 17 points.  Defensively, three different Dolphins blocked two shots and the Setters forced 20 CSI turnovers.

The Dolphins will play their final home game of 2024 on Sunday when they visit Bloomfield College at 1:00 PM.
