Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS FALL TO BEARS ON THE ROAD IN NON-CONFERENCE PLAY, 81-71

Bloomfield, NJ - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team dropped their 2024 finale today as they fell to the Bloomfield College Bears on the road, 81-71.  The loss drops the Dolphins to 5-8 on the season and the win improves the Bears to 6-4.  Bloomfield also increases their lead in the all-time series to 4-1 with victories over the Dolphins during each of the last two seasons.

After the two teams remained close early, the Bears put together the game's first scoring run late in the first half.  With the score tied at 24 with 6:57 to go before the break, the Bears would score eighteen of the last 28 points in the half.  At one point, Bloomfield would go in front by double-figures, but the lead at halftime was 42-34.  In the absence of Messiah Mallory, Justin Zieris and Sean Hargrave stepped up for the Dolphins offensively in the half with nine and seven points respectively.  However, the Dolphins were shooting just 30% as a team through 20 minutes.

The Bears lead remained double-digits from the first basket of the second half all the way through the final 1:20 of the game.  CSI would pull to within nine from the free throw line at that point, but the Dolphins simply were not left without enough time to mount a late comeback.  CSI would get as close as six with 1:14 remaining, but the Bears immediately responded with a score at the other end to go back in front by eight.  Despite a big half from JJ Chestnut, the Dolphins fell ten points short in an 81-71 defeat.

Zieris led the Dolphins with 16 points, and both Chestnut and Asa Kone finished in double-figures with 12 and 10 points.  Four Bears scored at least 14 points led by Izaiah Poole and Edward Ngene with 15 each.

The Dolphins return to action on the second day of 2025 when they take on Virginia Union University at The Tank.
