Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS KNOCK OFF REGIONALLY RANKED NEW HAVEN FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

West Haven, CT - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team picked up their third straight win today as they knocked off the regionally ranked University of New Haven, 60-53.  The Dolphins improve to 8-4 with the win and New Haven drops to 9-2 with the defeat.  CSI also earns their first-ever victory against New Haven in four meetings dating back to the 2019 season.

In a low-scoring first quarter, the Dolphins got off to a strong start with seven of the game's first nine points.  However, an 8-2 Chargers run gave New Haven their first lead since the opening minute.  From here, the Dolphins responded with a 14-6 run to go back in front by seven, their largest lead of the half.  Once again, the Chargers answered, this time with five straight points.  After trailing 25-22, the Chargers ended the half on a 9-0 run and took a 31-25 lead into the break.

Looking to bounce back from a slow second quarter, the Dolphins saw their deficit grow to as many as eleven points early in the third.  However, the Dolphins would end the quarter on a 15-2 run led by nine points from Jenalyse Alarcon.  Leading 46-42 entering the fourth, the Dolphins would not surrender the lead the rest of the way.  The Chargers would get as close as one with 2:36 remaining, but four straight points from Dana Phelan pushed the CSI lead back to five.  That lead would grow to seven in the closing minute as the Dolphins won their third straight, 60-53.

Alarcon led the Dolphins with 17 points and Amber Abusbeih added 12 points.  The Dolphins shot 62% in the third quarter and 45% in the fourth quarter on their way to erasing their first-half deficit.  Overall, they held the Chargers to 33% shooting for the game.  New Haven had three players score in double-figures led by Charlotte Bassett with 14 points.

The Dolphins return to action at home on January 2, 2025 when they face the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College at The Tank.
