Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS CAN'T OVERCOME FIRST-HALF STRUGGLES IN LOSS TO GOLDEY-BEACOM, 62-54

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team saw their three-game win streak snapped at home earlier tonight as they fell to Goldey-Beacom College, 62-54.  After a poor first half, the Dolphins were forced to play from behind by double-digits for nearly the entire second half.  CSI would only pull to within single digits briefly in the third and once more in the closing seconds on their way to an eight-point.  The Dolphins fall to 8-5 with the loss and Goldey-Beacom improves to 4-10 with their third straight win.

The Dolphins led multiple times in the first quarter, but both teams shot the ball very poorly in the opening period.  The two defenses combined to limit the two sides to 8-30 from the field in the first ten minutes, but the two teams would begin trending in opposite directions in the second quarter.  The Dolphins were once again held well below 40% shooting in the second while the Lightning improved their shooting to well above that mark in the period.  Most notably, the Dolphins were limited to 4-18 from beyond the arc through halftime, and the game reached the break with Goldey-Beacom leading by twelve.

The Dolphins did not see the deficit grow much larger during the second half, but they were unable to get closer than ten until the very end of the third quarter.  A nine-point deficit immediately grew to twelve to begin the fourth, and the Lightning remained firmly in control from there.  Goldey-Beacom shot no worse than 40% in each of the final three quarters, and the Lightning finished the game shooting over 48% from beyond the arc.  As they did in the third quarter, the Dolphins pulled to within single-digits in the closing seconds.  However, the Goldey-Beacom lead was never threatened on their way to the 62-54 victory.

Madison Haggett gave the Dolphins a team-leading 14 points off the bench, and Amber Abusbeih finished with 12.  Julie Kulesza led the Lightning with 16 and Rory Ciszkowski finished with 15.  More than half of Goldey-Beacom's shot attempts were threes, and they finished shooting 13-27 from deep.

The Dolphins will be right back in action on Saturday when they visit Caldwell University for another non-conference contest.
