TRACK & FIELD SETS SIX NEW INDOOR RECORDS AT YOUREE SPENCE GARCIA INVITATIONAL

12/7/2024 11:00:00 PM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Indoor Track & Field Team got their season off to a strong start earlier today as they set five six program records at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational.  Today's outing marked the third straight year that the team has begun their season at this meet and saw the team return to familiar territory at the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Facility on Staten Island.  Among the records that fell today were men's and women's records spanning across events both on the track and in the field.

The CSI men accounted for two of the six records set in today's meet as Vincent Ohenhen set a new program-best mark in the 300-Meter Dash with a time of 35.82 seconds.  This is the second straight season that Ohenhen has set a new record in the season-opener, and the record is the third individual record he currently holds.  With the record in the 300, Ohenhen now holds program records in three sprints, the 60, 200 and 300.  He also contributed to a record-setting relay in 2021.  In the field, Dominik Hric also set a new program record in the Weight Throw with a distance of 12.10m.  This was also good for fourth-place in the field of eleven in the meet.

For the CSI women, four new records were set in today's meet.  First Inioluwa Ogunfowora set the second Dolphins record of the day in the 300-Meter Dash.  Her time of 46.56 seconds bested the previous record by approximately two seconds, a record that was set by teammate Alexandrea Jackson early last season.  Records for the CSI women were not limited to sprints as Elizabeth Nicotra also set a new record in the 1K.  Her time of 3:16.97 was good for 9th overall, and she was one of two Dolphins to beat the previous record in today's meet.  Finishing in 11th place and less than two seconds behind Nicotra's pace was Angelina Guerriero with a time of 3:17.68.  The final women's record set on the track came in the 4x800 Relay.  Guerriero, Nicotra, and Jackson were joined by Camryn Koch to set a new program record by nearly 25 seconds.  Finally, Adonijah Washington became the program record-holder in the Triple Jump with a distance of 11.42m.

The Dolphins will be in action one more time before the holiday recess as they take part in the Wagner College Shootout on Friday at Ocean Breeze.
