Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS OVERTAKE D'YOUVILLE BEHIND DOMINANT FOURTH QUARTER EFFORT, 68-61

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team picked up a huge conference win earlier today as they came from behind to defeat D'Youville University, 68-61.  The Dolphins improve to 8-14 on the year with the win and are now 5-7 against the ECC.  The loss drops the Saints to 9-14 on the season and 7-5 against the ECC.  The CSI win also evens up the all-time series between the two teams at 3-3.

The Dolphins got off to a slow start offensively and scored just two points through the first five minutes of the opening quarter.  From there, Kyra Rose began to assert herself offensively with consecutive scores to end the period.  Oyinkansola Oke then opened the second with a three to bring the Dolphins within four, and Elizabeth Lofaro made it a two-point game on another three with 5:27 to go before halftime.  D'Youville answered with a three of their own by Anna Jankovic, and the Saints went on to end the half leading, 28-23.

Trailing by seven early in the third, consecutive CSI three-pointers by Oke and Dana Phelan quickly brought the Dolphins back to within one.  A 6-0 Saints run followed, and D'Youville ended the quarter leading by eight.  The Dolphins would fall behind by as many as eleven early in the fourth, but momentum would begin to swing in CSI's favor with an Ashley Lambert three-pointer.  Phelan added another three moments later to cut the lead to five, and Rose combined with Jenalyse Alarcon to give CSI the lead with ten straight points.  After the Dolphins took the lead for the first time with 3:34, the Saints scored just six points the rest of the way as CSI closed out the win from the free-throw line, 68-61.

Rose led the Dolphins with 20 points on 9-14 from the field and Alarcon scored 17 behind 11 made free-throws.  Despite shooting 6-19 from beyond the arc, the Dolphins finished shooting nearly 49% from the field.  The CSI defense also held D'Youville to sub-34% shooting and the Dolphins outscored the Saints 33-18 in the fourth quarter.

The Dolphins will break from conference play for the final time this season on Wednesday night when they visit Dominican University at 6:00 PM.
