DOLPHINS DROP NON-CONFERENCE FINALE TO DOMINICAN, 75-58

Orangeburg, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team dropped their final non-conference game of the season earlier tonight as they fell to Dominican University, 75-58.  The Dolphins fall to 8-15 on the year with the loss and the Chargers improve to 10-13.  The win is the seventh for the Chargers in 9 all-time meetings with the Dolphins.

The Dolphins scored the game's first basket on a three-pointer by Dana Phelan but fell behind 7-4 shortly after.  From here, the two sides traded baskets for much of the opening quarter with the Dolphins ultimately retaking the lead on a Jenalyse Alarcon layup with 3:29 to go in the period.  Alarcon gave the Dolphins the lead a second time at 10-9, but this is the last time CSI would lead in the game.  The Chargers ended the quarter on a 9-2 run and led 18-12 through the first ten minutes.

The second saw the Dolphins score just two points in the first five minutes of the quarter, and the Dominican lead grew as large as 19 before halftime.  However, the Dolphins went on a 7-2 run heading into the break and trailed by 14 at the half.
The Dolphins fell behind by 20 for the first time midway through the third and did not get any closer than 16 points again during that quarter.  The Dominican lead would be cut to 16 once again in the closing minutes, but the Dolphins wouldn't get any closer than that as they went on to lose, 75-58.

Alarcon led the Dolphins with 19 points on 8-14 shooting to go along with 7 rebounds.  Defensively, she also added 2 blocks and 3 steals.  Phelan scored 10, and no other Dolphin scored more than 6.  Cayla Howard registered a double-double for the Chargers with 22 points and 13 rebounds and Dominican forced 20 CSI turnovers.

The Dolphins will hit the road this weekend for a big conference game at the site of their 2023 ECC Championship opener as they take on UDC on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
