Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

SECOND HALF COMEBACK BID FIZZLES OUT IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL LOSS TO UDC

Washington, DC - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team fell to the University of the District of Columbia for the second time this season earlier today, 70-47.  The Dolphins fall to 8-16 on the season with the defeat and are now 5-8 in conference play.  The Firebirds improve to 16-8 overall and 9-4 in the ECC.  The win is the sixth straight for UDC against the Dolphins in the regular season.

The Dolphins fell behind 5-0 to open the game, but Kaia Johnson would score four straight to bring CSI back to within one.  Consecutive UDC threes extended their lead to seven, and served as the start of a 17-0 scoring run that extended into the final 90 seconds of the period.  The Dolphins opened the second trailing by 19 when Jenalyse Alarcon opened the scoring with two of her 22 points.  However, CSI would eventually fall behind by as many as 24 before halftime, and the Dolphins would go into the locker room trailing by 19.

Led by Alarcon, the Dolphins came out incredibly strong in the second half and pulled to within eleven just two and a half minutes into the third quarter
.  The Firebirds immediately responded with an 11-0 run, and this effectively put the game out of reach.  The UDC lead dipped below 20 for a few moments in the third, but the Dolphins would trail by at least that much for the remainder of the game.

Alarcon led the Dolphins with 22 points and 11 rebounds, but no other Dolphin scored more than 7.  Defensively, the Dolphins held UDC to 34.3% shooting from the field, but CSI shot just 24.2% from the floor.  The Dolphins also struggled from the outside shooting just 2-22 from distance.

The Dolphins return home on Wednesday when they will host Roberts Wesleyan University for a 5:00 PM matchup at The Tank.  The Dolphins will enter that game as the sixth seed in the ECC with three conference games remaining.  Those games are against the three teams in the conference out of the playoffs, Roberts Wesleyan, Molloy, and Queens.
