Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS MOVE TO WITHIN ONE WIN OF PLAYOFF BERTH WITH VICTORY OVER ROBERTS WESLEYAN, 67-62

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team moved to within one win of clinching a playoff berth as they defeated the Red Hawks of Roberts Wesleyan University, 67-62.  The Dolphins move to 9-16 on the season with the win and improve to 6-8 in conference play.  The Red Hawks fall to 6-15 on the year and 2-11 against the ECC.  With the victory, the Dolphins can clinch a playoff spot with a win against Molloy next week.

The Dolphins led for much of the first half beginning with an early go-ahead three-pointer by Dana Phelan.  Falling behind only briefly after that, the Dolphins ended the opening quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 17-10 lead into the second.  The Dolphins extended their lead to double-digits for the first time near the midway point of the second behind the offense of Kyra Rose, but the Red Hawks closed the half with 16-6 run to tie the score at 29.

After opening the second half with five straight points, the Dolphins led 34-29.  However, the Red Hawks tied the score with an 8-3 run, and the third quarter ended tied at 45.  The Red Hawks went in front briefly to open the fourth, 47-45, but the Dolphins immediately tied the score and took the lead right back.  With under six minutes to play, Roberts Wesleyan went in front for the final time, 53-51.  Elizabeth Lofaro then gave CSI the lead for good with the first of two consecutive three-pointers.  With CSI in front by four, the Red Hawks would pull to within two once more, but Phelan added another three to make it a five-point game.  The Red Hawks would cut that lead to three with six seconds remaining, but the Dolphins closed out the win from the line.

Lambert led the Dolphins with 16 points and Rose finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Despite shooting just 35.4% from the field, the Dolphins were 14-17 from the line.  Meanwhile, the Red Hawks only attempted two free-throws in the game.  Roberts Wesleyan was led in scoring by Danielle Dicintio who followed a 28-point game at The Tank last season with 19 points in tonight's game.

The Dolphins return home in one week when they will have a chance to clinch a playoff spot with a win over Molloy University on Senior Night.  The Senior Night presentation will begin at 5:15 PM ahead of a 5:30 PM tipoff.
