DOLPHINS SEE FIVE-GAME WIN STREAK END WITH NON-CONFERENCE LOSS TO BLOOMFIELD, 100-90

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team saw their five-game win streak come to an end earlier today as they lost to the Bloomfield College Bears by a final score of 100-90.  The Dolphins fall to 17-9 following their final non-conference game of the season.  The win improves Bloomfield to 18-8 and extends their lead in the all-time series to 3-1.

The Dolphins continued a season-long trend of strong starts and quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead on threes by Messiah Mallory and Bryce Waterman.  Ultimately, the first six baskets of the game were all three-pointers, four belonging to the Dolphins.  With CSI in front 12-6, the Bears scored five straight points to pull to within one.  With the Dolphins still ahead by one, 21-20, the red-hot outside shooting continued with a Chris Clancy three to put CSI ahead by four.  This was the start of a Dolphins run that saw CSI take the lead by as many as eleven point before halftime.  However, the Bears closed the half on a 21-10 run and sent the game to halftime tied at 47.

The Dolphins did not trail at an point during the first half, but the Bears took their first lead of the game shortly after the second half began.  The Bears lead was short-lived as the Dolphins pulled ahead 54-52, but CSI would never lead again beyond this point.  A 9-0 Bears run put Bloomfield ahead by seven, but Waterman pulled the Dolphins back to within four with his fifth three of the game.  The Dolphins would tie the score at 70 three minutes later on a three by Shemar Latty, but Bloomfield was able to build their lead back to double-digits with five minutes to go.  With one minute to go the lead was cut to four, but the Dolphins were never able to get within one possession as they went on to lose, 100-90.

Starrell Hearns led all scorers with 25 points followed by Messiah Mallory with 23 points and 11 rebounds.  Waterman finished with 19 points and Adeleye Oyekanmi finished with a season-high 18 points, his third straight game in double-figures.  After shooting nearly 53% in the first half, the Dolphins shot under 40% in the second half.  Conversely, the Bears shot more consistently across the 40 minutes and benefited from 28 free-throw attempts in the game.


The Dolphins play their final home game of the season on Wednesday when they will host Molloy University on Senior Night.  Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 PM and the Dolphins can clinch a first round bye in the playoffs with the win.
