MEN'S BASKETBALL LOCKS UP FIRST ROUND PLAYOFF BYE WITH SENIOR NIGHT VICTORY OVER MOLLOY

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team locked up a first round bye in the East Coast Conference playoffs earlier tonight as they defeated the Molloy University Lions, 83-75.  The Dolphins improve to 18-9 with the win and move to 12-3 in conference play.  The loss eliminates the Lions from playoff contention as they drop to 7-19 on the season and 5-10 against the ECC.  The win earns the Dolphins a sweep of the season series and finalizes the six teams that will be a part of the ECC playoffs in Men's Basketball.

Ahead of tonight's game, the Dolphins honored their four seniors, Adeleye Oyekanmi, Jordan McAllister, Justin Zieris and Bryce Waterman.  Each joined family and friends on the court as they received an ovation from a capacity crowd at The Tank.  All four were in the starting lineup and Waterman was presented with a basketball to celebrate him reaching 1000 career points earlier in the season.

CSI's senior-led starting unit fell behind in the opening minutes, but the Dolphins defense would stifle the Lions offense for much of the first half after that.  An 11-0 Dolphins run saw Molloy stuck on four points for nearly five minutes as the Dolphins went ahead 13-4.  Molloy would not get any closer than six until the final two minutes of the half when the Lions cut the Dolphins lead to four.  A Chris Clancy three would put the Dolphins ahead by seven, but Molloy scored the final basket of the half to send the game to the intermission with CSI leading, 35-30.

Following the half, the Dolphins immediately lost the lead following a pair of threes by Rob Matos.  Oyekanmi then gave the Dolphins the lead right back with two of his team-leading 16 points, and the Dolphins would never trail again.  Consecutive threes by Waterman and Clancy would eventually extend the lead to ten, but a 6-0 run pulled Molloy back to within four.  However, the outside shooting of the Dolphins propelled CSI ahead by as many as 14 points and Molloy would not get any closer than six again.

Oyekanmi led the Dolphins in scoring with 16 and was one of four Dolphins in double-figures along with McAllister, Clancy and Aaron Goldstein.  Despite various injuries throughout the game, the Dolphins still managed to hold Molloy under 40% shooting and trailed for only a few seconds throughout the entirety of the game.  Matos led Molloy in scoring with 21 and was one of four Lions in double-figures.

The Dolphins play their final game of the season on Saturday when they will visit Queens College in a battle of CUNY schools.  Tip off is scheduled for 1:00 PM.  Following Saturday's finale, the Dolphins will have a week off ahead of the ECC Championship semifinals to be hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College.  The Dolphins will face the winner of the #4 vs #5 seed opening round matchup in that game.
