DOLPHINS LOSE HEARTBREAKER IN MYRTLE BEACH FINALE, 6-5

Myrtle Beach, SC – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team concluded their Myrtle Beach trip earlier today as they lost a heartbreaker to Adelphi University, 6-5.  After trailing for much of the game, the Dolphins tied the score with two runs in the top of the ninth inning.  From there, the Panthers walked it off in the bottom of the ninth to drop the Dolphins to 1-4 on the season.  Adelphi improves to 3-2 with the victory.

The Dolphins got on the board first in the second inning when Nicholas Rodriguez drove in a pair with a 2-RBI single.  The Panthers immediately responded in the next half-inning with a three-spot to take a one-run lead, and neither team would score again until the sixth.  In the home sixth, Adelphi would tack on another run to make it 4-2.

The CSI offense remained dormant until the eighth inning when AJ Vigliotti delivered a game-tying two-run homer, his first of the season.  This was all the Dolphins would get in the inning sending the game to the ninth inning tied at five.  The final half-inning would open with a walk followed by a single.  This put runners on the corners, but a groundout would keep the winning run from scoring.  With one out, the Dolphins intentionally loaded the bases with a walk, and a pop up on the infield would bring the Dolphins one out away from escaping the inning.  However, Alex Rende won it for the Panthers with a walk-off single through the left side as Adelphi took the win, 6-5.

Chris Polemeni continued his hot start with three hits in five at-bats.  Rodriguez and Vigliotti each drove in two runs and the latter went 2-4 at the plate.  Nick Pusinelli also gave CSI three solid innings out of the bullpen allowing just one run and striking out three.

The Dolphins will return home tonight and will have several days off before their next game on Friday at 9:00 AM.  That morning they will face Caldwell University at Staten Island University Hospital Community Park, home of the Staten Island Ferry Hawks.
