Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS CAN'T OVERCOME SLOW START AGAINST WILDCATS IN 71-44 LOSS

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team couldn't overcome a slow start earlier tonight in a loss to Daemen University as they fell to the Wildcats, 71-44.  The Dolphins drop to 7-14 on the year with the loss and fall to 4-7 in conference play.  The victory sees the Wildcats improve to 14-5 overall and 9-1 against the conference.  The Wildcats also stay perfect in seven games against the Dolphins all-time.

The Dolphins got off to a difficult start at both ends of the floor and surrendered 25 points in the opening quarter while scoring only 8.  However, CSI began a turnaround behind their defense in the second quarter and slowly began to work their way back.  With less than 90 seconds to go before halftime, consecutive threes by Madison Hagget and Elizabeth Lofaro brought the Dolphins to within 12.  The two makes from beyond the arc were the first two made three-pointers in the game for the Dolphins, and after trailing by as many as 19, CSI went into the half trailing by 12.

Immediately following halftime, the Dolphins briefly cut the Daemen lead to 10, but the Wildcats went on another scoring run that allowed them to match their largest lead of 19 points.  This effectively put the game out of reach, and the Dolphins would not get any closer than 17 in the final quarter of a 71-44 loss.

Without Jenalyse Alarcon in the lineup, Noemia Massingue led the Dolphins in scoring with 10 points.  Massingue was also CSI's leading rebounder with 8, and no other Dolphin scored in double-figures.  Alahna Paige battled foul trouble on her way to leading Daemen with 24 points.

The Dolphins will look to bounce back in less than 48 hours when they take on D'Youville University on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
