DOLPHINS DROP DOUBLEHEADER TO GOLDEY-BEACOM IN FIRST GAMES AT CSI BASEBALL COMPLEX

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team played their first games of the season at the CSI Baseball Complex earlier today and dropped a doubleheader to the Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College, 8-3 and 13-5.  The Lightning improved to 11-7 on the year with the two victories and the Dolphins end the day 4-7.  The Lightning have now won all four meetings with the Dolphins.

GAME 1
The Lightning jumped out to an early lead in the first inning behind just a single base hit as they scored four times before the Dolphins came to bat.  The Dolphins responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning on a Lightning error, but Goldey-Beacom got the run right back in the second on a sacrifice fly.  This would be the first of four straight runs scored by the Lightning across four innings, and they would take an 8-1 lead into the home fifth.  Trailing by seven, the Dolphins scored twice on a Chris Polemeni single, but a double play grounder derailed a potential rally soon after.  The Dolphins would settle for just two runs in the inning, and neither team would score the rest of the way as the Lightning took the 8-3 win.

GAME 2
Just as they did in game one, the Lightning jumped out to an early lead in game two with seven-spot in the second inning.  The seven runs came on six hits helped along by a Dolphins error.  However, CSI pitching held the Lightning scoreless in the third giving their offense a chance to pull closer in the home half of the inning.  Trailing 7-0, the Dolphins put together a four-run rally which saw three of the first four batters single to open the frame.  With the bases loaded, Michael Palermo delivered a two-RBI hit down the line to make it 7-2.  A wild pitch then brought home one more to pull CSI within four, but this was as close as the Dolphins would get.  The Lightning got the four runs back with one in the fourth and three in the fifth, and they would go on to score the game's last six runs in a 13-5 victory.

Michael Kehoe had two his in game one and Polemeni went 2-3 with a pair of RBI in the first of the two games.  No Dolphin had multiple hits in game two and CSI finished the day with 10 hits across the two games.  CSI pitching allowed just seven hits in game one, but the Lightning erupted for 13 hits in their game two victory.

The Dolphins will get a chance to bounce back on Friday when they face Dominican University at the CSI Baseball Complex in another non-conference doubleheader.  First pitch is scheduled for Friday at noon.
