WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS REGULAR SEASON FINALE AGAINST QUEENS, 65-54

Flushing, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team dropped their regular season finale earlier today as they lost to Queens College, 65-54.  The Dolphins finish the regular season 10-17 on the season and drop to 7-9 in conference play.  The Knights finish the season 8-19 and 4-12 against the ECC.  The Dolphins maintain the #5 seed in the conference playoffs despite the loss and will meet the University of the District of Columbia on Wednesday night in a rematch from last year's ECC Championship opening round.

The Dolphins jumped out to an early four-point lead in the opening quarter and led until the midway point of the first period.  The Knights took the lead for the first time since the first few seconds of the game at the 4:53 mark, but the game would go to the second tied at 16.  Queens would go ahead by three on multiple occasions in the second quarter, but the Dolphins remained within one possession for the entirety of the quarter.  Jenalyse Alarcon capped off a strong first half with a pair of free throws in the closing seconds and brought the Dolphins to within one after 20 minutes.

Just as she opened the first half scoring for CSI, Ashley Lambert opened the second half with a three-pointer to put the Dolphins ahead by two.  However, Queens would respond with an 8-0 run to take a six-point lead, the largest of the game for either team.  The lead would reach double-digits for the first time in the final 90 seconds of the quarter, and the Knights went into the fourth leading by 11.  The Dolphins would pull to within single-digits briefly to start the fourth, but they would never get to within 10 again as they went on to lose, 65-54.

Alarcon and Lambert each scored 12 to lead CSI, and the Dolphins shot 40% from the field in the game.  The Knights shot above the 50% mark for the game and had two 20-point scorers in Nkiru Awaka and Jalea Abrams.

The Dolphins will have three days off ahead of their 2023 playoff rematch against the University of the District of Columbia.  The Dolphins will face the Firebirds on Wednesday night looking to advance to the conference semifinals for the second consecutive year.
