DOLPHINS SCORE FIRST CONFERENCE WIN AHEAD OF TOUGH LOSS IN DOUBLEHEADER SPLIT WITH MERCY

Dobbs Ferry, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team wrapped up their season series with Mercy University earlier today as they scored their first conference win and suffered a tough loss in today's ECC doubleheader.  In game one, the Dolphins picked up their first win in conference play behind an 8-3 victory.  The Dolphins also led in game two entering the home eighth inning, but seven Maverick runs put Mercy in front for good as they took the win, 11-7.  The Dolphins end the day 6-13 on the year and 1-3 in conference play. The Mavericks are now 12-12 on the year and 3-1 against the ECC.

GAME 1
The Dolphins took the lead in their first turn at bat as a walk and wild pitch set up a run-scoring AJ Vigliotti ground rule double.  After a scoreless home first inning, the Mavericks got on the board for the first time in the second on a 2-RBI single by Alfred Hoti.  Now trailing 2-1, the Dolphins would take the lead for good in the third.  With two on base, Nicholas Rodriguez doubled home both runners to put CSI in front, 3-2.  That lead would grow to three on a 2-RBI hit by Vincent Weigele in the fifth, and Mercy would respond with another RBI hit by Hoti in the next inning.  However, the Mavericks would not score again, and the Dolphins would add three more insurance runs on their way to an 8-3 victory.

GAME 2
Anthony Sutera opened the scoring in game two with a 2-RBI double in the top of the second to put CSI ahead by a pair.  Weigele then added another RBI base hit to his stat line for the day as he tripled home Sutera to make it 3-0.  A passed ball allowed Weigele to score soon after, and the Dolphins ended the inning leading by four.  As they did in game one, Mercy would get on the board for the first time in the second.  A CSI error allowed the first Mavericks run to score in that inning, and Mercy would go on to add one more in the fourth on an RBI single by John Nisco.

Leading 4-2, the Dolphins began to pull away in the fifth.  Vigliotti singled home a run to make it 5-2 and Chris Polemeni grew the lead to five on a two-run shot to left field, his second of the season.  Now trailing 7-2, Nolan Giblin pulled the Mavericks to within three with a 2-RBI single in the seventh.  Now well within striking distance, the Mavericks came surging back in the eighth.  Hoti delivered another run-scoring hit to make it 7-5 before Joseph Gonzalez tied the score with a 2-RBI single.  With the bases loaded, a walk and a hit batter forced home two more runs to make it 9-7.  Finally, Nevin Scaperotti capped off the rally with another 2-RBI hit.  This gave the Mavericks all the extra cushion they would need as they took the win, 11-7.

Vigliotti had 3 hits in game one and Polemeni had 3 hits in game two.  Polemeni and Weigele also had three RBI each on the day.  Christian Rice earned the win for the Dolphins in game one allowing just two earned runs in 6.0 innings of work.  Antonio Gautreaux also added three innings of scoreless reliefs out of the CSI bullpen to help secure the win.

The Dolphins will next take the field on Thursday when they resume conference play against the Lincoln University.  They will play the first of four home games against the Lions at the CSI Baseball Complex on Thursday at 3:30 PM.
