DOLPHINS EVEN CONFERENCE RECORD WITH DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF LINCOLN

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team picked up a pair of conference wins today as they opened their four-game series with Lincoln University by sweeping Friday's doubleheader.  In game one, the Dolphins offense erupted for 16 runs as they went on to defeat the Lions by nine.  In game two, the Dolphins went down 2-0 early, but CSI would come from behind to win by five as they pulled away in the late innings.  The Dolphins end the day 8-13 on the year and improve to 3-3 in conference play. The Lions are 7-14 overall following the two losses, and they end the day 1-5 against the ECC.

GAME 1
The Lions took the early lead with a first-inning run against CSI starter Ryan Kehoe, but this would be the last time Lincoln would lead in the first game of the day.  The Dolphins answered with four runs in the home first, three coming on a bases-clearing triple by Anthony Sutera.  CSI registered just one hit in the second, a two-RBI double by Chris Polemeni, but two Lions errors helped the Dolphins add three more to their lead.  The 7-1 CSI lead later grew to to ten in the sixth when Nicholas Rodriguez capped off a Dolphins rally with another two-RBI hit.  Now leading 11-1, the Dolphins had all of the offense they would need.  Though CSI was outscored by Lincoln 6-5 the rest of the way, the Dolphins went on to secure a decisive 16-7 victory.

GAME 2
As they did in game one, Lincoln took the lead in the first inning of game two.  Jaden Greenidge chased home the game's first two runs with a two-out, 2-RBI double to give the Lions the lead.  However, the Dolphins would answer back with a two-out rally in the first.  A one-out single by Bryan Birkhead set the table, and the Dolphins did the rest without the benefit of a hit.  Three of the next four batters walked, and another reached on a costly error as the Dolphins scored three times in the inning.  Now trailing 3-2, Lincoln evened the score in the second on a two-out RBI single by Miguel Agramonte.  The 3-3 tie would stand until the fourth when the Lions threw the ball away attempting to turn an inning-ending double-play.  This allowed the go-ahead run to score from third, and the Dolphins would not relinquish the lead from there.

The game's next runs were scored in the home fifth as the Dolphins plated a pair behind one hit, three stolen bases, two walks, and a Lions error.  Behind 6-3, Lincoln scored two more two-out runs in the sixth on RBI hits by Agramonte and Gio Morales.  Leading, 6-5 the Dolphins would pull away in the home half of the inning as they scored four times.  Though the CSI lead had grown to 10-5, the Dolphins wouldn't need any insurance as they went on to win by that final score.

Following 16 run on 15 hits in game one, the Dolphins needed just five hits to score ten runs in game two.  AJ Vigliotti had four hits in the first game, and both Vincent Weigele and Polemeni had three hits.  Only Bryan Birkhead had multiple hits for the Dolphins in game two, but the team drew ten walks in the five-run win.  In the field, the Lions were hamstrung by ten errors across the two games resulting in five unearned runs.

The Dolphins and Lions conclude their series tomorrow at the CSI Baseball Complex with a pair of nine inning games.  First pitch of game one is scheduled for 12:00 PM.
