DOLPHINS CAN'T OVERCOME FIRST INNING STRUGGLES IN SERIES FINALE AGAINST D'YOUVILLE

Niagara Falls, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team dropped their series finale against D'Youville University earlier today as the Saints scored six times in the first inning on their way to an 8-4 victory.  With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 12-23 on the season and 7-13 in conference play.  The Saints are now 22-17 on the year and 10-5 against conference opponents.

Things got off to a very tough start for the Dolphins as Francesco Bonvini labored through the first inning.  The first five D'Youville hitters that came to the plate each walked setting the stage for a six-run opening frame.  It took just one hit to bring home six in the home first inning, and the Dolphins would be trying to dig themselves out of an early hole for the rest of the game.  After D'Youville added one more to their lead in the fifth, the Dolphins scored three in the sixth to make it a four-run game.  The Dolphins then added one more in the seventh to pull to within three, but the Saints tacked on one more run in the eighth to go in front 8-4.  This would ultimately be the final score as the Saints swept the four-game series from the Dolphins.

The Dolphins finished the game with just two hits, one by AJ Vigliotti and another by Bryan Birkhead.  Despite his first inning struggles, Bonvini gave the Dolphins five innings allowing five earned runs.  In relief, Nick Pusinelli allowed one run on just one hit and walked four.

The Dolphins will visit East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday ahead of their final East Coast Conference series of the season next weekend against Molloy.
