DOLPHINS DROP SERIES OPENER TO MOLLOY, 12-3

Uniondale, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team dropped their series opener against Molloy University earlier today as the Dolphins lost to the top team in the ECC by a final score of 12-3.  With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 12-24 on the season and 7-14 in conference play.  The Lions are now 31-10 on the year and 13-4 in conference play.

The Lions opened the scoring in the first inning when Matt Yip delivered an RBI single to put the Lions ahead 1-0.  Molloy would once again threaten in the second, but with the bases loaded and nobody out they failed to add to their lead.  Neither team would scored again until the fourth when the Lions plated one more on a pair of base hits, but it was in the fifth that Molloy would break the game open with ten runs on seven hits.  Still looking to score for the first time, the Dolphins would strand two in the seventh, and it was in the ninth that the Dolphins scored for the first time.  One came home on an Anthony Agostinelli RBI double.  Another cam home on a Bryan Birkhead sacrifice fly, and the third scored on an RBI single by Chris Bartnik.  However, this wasn't nearly enough to erase their deficit as the Dolphins fell, 12-3.

The Dolphins will continue their series against the Lions tomorrow as they host Senior Day as the CSI Basbeball Complex.  The first game of a doubleheader will begin at noon.  The three CSI seniors will then be recognized ahead of game two which is scheduled to begin at approximately 3:30 PM.
