POLEMENI TIES SINGLE-SEASON STOLEN BASE RECORD AS DOLPHINS BEAT ADELPHI, 9-1

Staten Island, NY – The College of Staten Island Baseball Team opened the final week of the regular season with a decisive win at home as they defeated Adelphi University, 9-1.  The Dolphins improve to 13-27 on the season with win and earn a split of the season series with the Panthers.  The Panthers fall back to the .500 mark at 21-21.  In the CSI victory, Chris Polemeni stole two bases two give him a share of the CSI record for stolen bases in a single season with 27.  The freshman has not yet been caught attempting to steal a base this season.

The Dolphins jumped ahead by three runs early as two hits and a pair of walks helped the Dolphins take an early 3-0 lead.  In the inning, Polemeni stole consecutive bases to give him 27 on the season and a share of CSI's single-season record.  Three walks would help the Dolphins score a fourth run in the third inning, but the Panthers would limit the damage to one as the Dolphins stranded the bases loaded.  A hit batter and a walk led to another Dolphins run without the benefit of a hit in the fourth, but the Panthers would mount their first threat in the fifth.  Consecutive hits opened the road fifth, but the Panthers would fail to score as both runners were stranded by CSI starter Michael Furst.  Leading 6-0, the Dolphins added another run on a Thomas Marten RBI single in the fifth.  Adelphi would scratch across a run in the seventh, but the Dolphins responded with two more in the eighth as they went on to win by a final score of 9-1.

CSI pitching would allow just four hits in the game and the Dolphins outhit the Panthers by five.  Both Marten and Anthony Sutera finished the day with two hits for the Dolphins, and Nicholas Rodriguez led the way offensively with three hits and three RBI.

The Dolphins will be on the road tomorrow against Caldwell University before returning home for their regular season finale on Saturday against Holy Family University.  Saturday's doubleheader will see the Dolphins celebrate their second annual Heroes Day at the CSI Baseball Complex.
