Bethpage, NY - The College of Staten Island Cross-Country Team opened the 2024 season earlier today as they competed in the Adelphi Panthers Cross-Country Invite. Eleven Dolphins competed in the meet, five men and five women. For the men, it was a tenth place finish in a field of fourteen teams. The CSI women placed sixth in a field of thirteen.
The highest placement for any CSI runner individually belonged to
Wayne Stephenson who registered the 19
th-best time in the 8K with a 27:55.4 mark. He was joined in that race by
Pedro Astudillo,
Adam Mohamed,
Matthew Amato,
Stephen Lau and
Maxwell Ming. Placing 10th, the six CSI runners combined for a score of 293 and an average time of 34:04.
The CSI women saw three runners place in the top 40 out of nearly 100 runners in the 5K led by
Angelina Guerriero. The senior posted a time of 22:14.2 to lead the Dolphins followed by
Elizabeth Nicotra and
Alexandrea Jackson. Nicotra and Jackson finished just one second apart with times of 23:32.5 and 23:33.5 respectively. Rounding out the squad of five runners were two Dolphins making their CSI debuts in
Adonijah Washington and
Mary-Lee Mitchell. Placing sixth, the Dolphins scored 194 with an average time of 24:37.
TEAM RESULTS
East Stroudsburg took the win in both the men's and women's meet. As for the ECC, Molloy took second in the women's meet while Queens College finished one spot behind the Dolphins in seventh. On the men's side Molloy and Queens finished fifth and sixth respectively.
The Dolphins will wait over three weeks before returning to action on Saturday, September 28
th at the Fred Pavlich Invitational. That meet will take place at Montgomery Place in Annadale-on-Hudson, NY and will get underway 10:30 AM.
