Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MEN'S BASKETBALL SEES CONFERENCE WIN STREAK END AT HOME AGAINST ST. THOMAS AQUINAS

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team saw their three-game conference win streak come to an end at home earlier today as they fell to the Spartans of Saint Thomas Aquinas College at The Tank.  With the loss, the Dolphins fall to 7-10 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.  The Spartans improve to 8-6 overall and 3-2 against the ECC.  The Spartans also remain unbeaten against the Dolphins since CSI made the move to Division II in 2019.

The two teams got off to a strong offensive start with ten points scored in the first three minutes of the game.  At that point, the Spartans held an 8-6 lead, but neither team would score for the next two minutes.  Finally, STAC broke the scoring drought with ten straight points to go in front by twelve.  Aaron Goldstein then got the Dolphins back on the board with a three to end the CSI scoreless stretch at over nine minutes.  However, the Spartans continued to grow their lead from there all culminating with a buzzer-beating three to end the first half with STAC in front 38-19.

The second half saw the Spartans quickly extend their lead beyond twenty points, and the Dolphins struggled to chip away in the minutes immediately following the halftime break.  CSI would battle back to within seventeen with inside of fourteen minutes to play, but this was as close as they would get.  Though the Dolphins played even for much of the second half, they were never able to threaten the Spartan lead.  After briefly leading by more than thirty at one point, STAC ultimately would go on to secure the win, 92-64.

Joey Poulin was the only Dolphin to score in double-figures leading the team with 15 points.  After inefficient shooting in the first half, the Dolphins shot 50% from the field in the second half.  Meanwhile, the Spartans shot 46% for the game and forced 25 CSI turnovers.  STAC was led in scoring by Derrick James with 19, one of five Spartans to score at least ten points in the win.

The Dolphins will look to bounce back when they hit the road on Wednesday for another conference matchup with Roberts Wesleyan University.
