Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

QUIROLO SCORES 33 IN FIFTH STRAIGHT CONFERENCE WIN FOR WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Rochester, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team won their fifth straight conference game earlier tonight as they defeated Roberts Wesleyan University on the road, 83-58.  After a Redhawks run in the second quarter, the Dolphins seized control of the game in the second half.  Alexa Quirolo scored 33 points, and the Dolphins scored 45 as a team in a huge second half to secure a 25-point victory.  The win improves the Dolphins to 11-6 on the year and 5-1 against the ECC.  The Redhawks are now 0-13 overall and 0-5 in conference play.

With their lead at one point four minutes into the first quarter, the Dolphins put together their first scoring run of the game to go ahead by double figures.  Helped along by eight points from Quirolo and five from Dana Phelan, the Dolphins ended the period up by eleven and finished the opening quarter with 27 points.  The Dolphins run would continue into the second as CSI scored the first six points in the period.  The Redhawks brought that run to an end with a three at the 8:56 mark, and neither team would score again for nearly four minutes.  Another RWU three-pointer ended the scoring drought, and the Redhawks would get as close as four with just seconds to go in the first half.  In the final seconds before the break, Jenalyse Alarcons sent the game to halftime with a CSI three to put the Dolphins back in front by seven at the break.

Another Redhawks three opened the third quarter, but once again Roberts was unable to get any closer than four.  It was at the midway point of the third that CSI began to pull away as Quirolo connected on another three to begin a CSI scoring run.  Entering the fourth, the Dolphins led by 15, and a huge offensive fourth quarter saw that lead grow all the way to 25 as CSI took the win, 83-58.

Quirolo scored a season-high 33 points for the Dolphins and Alarcon joined her in double figures with 12.  Kyra Rose finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds in just 20 minutes and Amber Abusbeih registered 7 points and 7 assists.  In their best shooting performance of the season, the Dolphins shot 50% from the field and 48% from beyond the arc.

The Dolphins will next be in action one week from tonight when they host Molloy University at The Tank.  Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
