MEETDAY: TRACK & FIELD COMPETES IN SECOND MEET OF 2025 AT GOTHAM CUP

1/17/2025 8:00:00 AM

Staten Island, NY - The College of Staten Island Indoor Track & Field Team competes for the second time in 2025 today as they return to the Ocean Breeze Track & Field Complex for the Gotham Cup.  The Dolphins will be competing in the Gotham Cup for the fifth time in program history and will look to follow up an effort one year ago which saw several Dolphins place in the top ten across several different events.

Both Skylar Pointer and Ava Thompson finished in the top ten in the Weight Throw.  Pointer achieved a distance of 13.21m while Thompson posted a distance of 12.57m.  On the track, three Dolphins competed in both the 400-Meter Dash and 800-Meter Run.  In the 400-Meter Angelina GuerrieroAlexandrea Jackson, and Elizabeth Nicotra all finished within 5 seconds of one another posting times ranging from 2:35 through 2:40.  The highest finish among returning Dolphins for the CSI men belonged to Vincent Ohenhen who took 10th overall in the 200-Meter Dash with a time of 22.28.  This set a new program record which still stands today.  Steven Elcock was not far behind in the same event as he took 17th with a time of 22.95s.

Last week's Spartan Invitation saw Jeremiah Downer set the lone new program record in the 60 Hurdles.  Wayne Stephenson then finished just three seconds off his own record pace in the Mile and Ibrahima Diallo posted another impressive taking 15th in the 400-Meter Dash. Diallo's effort in that event combined with his contribution to a record-setting relay earned him ECC Track Athlete of the Week honors.  Ohenhen once again placed near the top of a crowded field in the 200-Meter Dash with a time of 22.57 seconds.  He was one of six Dolphins to compete in the event, and his time was good for 13th in the field of 107.  In the women's meet, Adonijah Washington posted a time of 9.65 in the 60 Hurdles, just .18 seconds off a program record.  Inioluwa Ogunfowora and Precious Dillon and Elizabeth Nicotra did the same in the 800-Meter Run.  In Throws, Ava Thompson just missed the top 10 in the Weight Throw placing 11th in the field of 54.  Finally, Washington placed 4th overall in the Triple Jump to complete another impressive outing.
