Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

DOLPHINS DEFEAT KNIGHTS TO REACH SEVEN CONFERENCE WINS AT MIDPOINT OF ECC SCHEDULE

Flushing, NY - The College of Staten Island Women's Basketball Team earned their seventh conference win of the season this afternoon as they defeated the Queens College Knights on the road, 68-60.  The Dolphins are now 7-1 against the ECC and 13-6 overall as they reached the midway point of their conference schedule with today's game.  The Knights fall to 8-10 on the year and are now 3-5 in conference play.

The Dolphins set the tone early as they opened the game with a 10-0 run.  Of the first ten CSI points, six belonged to Kyra Rose who got off to a strong start in the opening quarter.  Queens would respond to the CSI run with five unanswered points of their own, but the Dolphins proceeded to score fourteen of the next nineteen points to go ahead by fifteen, 24-9.  The Knights closed the first quarter strong, and Queens would pull as close as two with 4:32 to go before halftime.  Led by Amber Abushbeih, the Dolphins slowly built their lead back up to nine at the half, and the Dolphins would extend that lead even further in the third.

Abusbeih combined with Rose and Jenalyse Alarcon to score eight of the first ten points in the third, and the CSI lead once again grew to fifteen.  Queens would briefly pull to within single digits later in the quarter, but the Dolphins went into the fourth leading by eleven.  That lead would be trimmed to six with eight minutes to play, but this time Madison Hagget delivered the third of her three makes from beyond the arc.  Now leading by nine, the Dolphins would not allow the Knights to get to within two possessions the rest of the way.  CSI would go on to win, 68-60, their seventh straight victory against the ECC.

Abusbeih led the Dolphins with 19 points to go along with 5 assists, 5 rebounds, and 2 steals.  Alarcon and Rose each recorded 12 points and 7 rebounds, and Hagget finished with 11 on 3-6 from beyond the arc.  As a team, the Knights were more efficient from the field throughout the game, but CSI forced 24 Queens turnovers in another stellar defensive effort.

The Dolphins will have six days to prepare for their biggest game of the regular season thus far on Friday night against Daemen University.  The team heads to Buffalo for the weekend where they will face Daemen on Friday at 5:30 PM and D'Youville on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
