STATEN ISLAND, NY - The College of Staten Island Swimming and Diving team launched their 2025–26 season with the CSI Kick-Off Invite on Oct. 4, followed by a head-to-head meet against FDU-Florham on Oct. 11. As a result of their strong performances, the Dolphins earned four Northeast-10 (NE10) weekly awards in the conference's first round of honors.
On the women's side, Maria Janecka and Jacqueline DeFranco earned NE10 honors of Rookie and Diver of the Week, respectively. Janecka made an impressive debut at the CSI Kick-Off Invite, setting an individual record in the 50 free (24.31) and helping set a team relay record in the 200 free (1:43.07). She also secured first-place finishes in the 200 free (1:57.35) and 100 free (53.59). The following week, she added another win in the 200 free (2:02.55) against the Knights, earning her Rookie of the Week recognition.
DeFranco competed in the 1M Dive (11 Dive) at the Kick-Off Invite, scoring a total of 368.75. She followed that performance with scores of 220.30 in the 1M and 194.50 in the 3M (6 Dive), securing Diver of the Week honors.
For the men, William Kwan was crowned Swimmer of the Week and Yubal Parra claimed the Diver of the Week. Kwan opened his season with a strong showing at the Kick-Off Invite, contributing to second-place finishes in both the 200 free relay (1:28.19) and 200 medley relay (1:38.97). He also placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:15.08. The senior followed up by helping secure the team's first overall meet win of the season against FDU, highlighted by his individual victory in the 100 butterfly (55.89).
Parra, the reigning 2024–25 NE10 Diver of the Year, continued his dominance with an NCAA-qualifying performance in the 1M Dive (11 Dive) on Oct. 4, scoring 512.70. The following week, he broke the CSI record in the 3M Dive (6 Dive) with a score of 363.15, securing another weekly conference honor.
The CSI Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving team will return to the Tank next Friday on Oct. 24 for a tri-meet with Adelphi University and Felician University starting at 4:00 PM.
