STATEN ISLAND, NY -Â The College of Staten Island men's soccer team hosted their senior day celebration during the East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup with Queens College (NY) on Saturday afternoon at Dolphins Soccer Park.Â
The senior quartet of Luis Acencio Cueva, Badr Mesrar, Tai Torres, and Matthew Beaton each contributed significant minutes in the opening half, helping the Dolphins take a 1-0 lead into halftime. However, sustained pressure from Queens in the second half resulted in two unanswered goals, handing the Dolphins a 2-1 defeat. With the loss, CSI falls to 1-6-4 overall and 0-4-1 in ECC play.
The match was tightly contested, with both the Dolphins and Knights pushing forward in search of scoring opportunities. CSI registered 14 shots on the day, while Queens followed closely with 13.
Goalkeeper Carlos Romero Astacio came up big early, making two crucial saves on the Knights' first on-target attempts, helping shift momentum in favor of the Dolphins. Capitalizing on that shift, Peterson Larose drove the ball through the middle of the field, maneuvered past a defender, and buried a shot to give CSI a quick 1-0 advantage.
The 1-0 lead held through halftime, with Queens eager to find an equalizer and preserve their unbeaten record in ECC play. They eventually leveled the score at 1-1, and with just under three minutes remaining, netted the game-winner to hand the Dolphins a 2-1 defeat.
The College of Staten Island men's soccer team will return to Dolphins Soccer Park on Wednesday, Oct. 22, for their final regular season home game versus the University of Distrcit of Columbia at 2:30 PM.Â
