WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS FIRST-EVER WIN AGAINST GOLDEY-BEACOM IN BOUNCEBACK EFFORT, 64-50

WILMINGTON, DE – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team faced Goldey-Beacom College (GBC) in their first road game of the season on Wednesday night, and the Dolphins bounced back from a loss on Sunday with their first win in program history against the Lightning.

The Dolphins opened the game with four straight points from Racky Kane, but the Lightning would score nine of the next eleven to go in front, 9-6.  The two teams would trade the lead several times throughout the rest of the opening quarter, and the Dolphins would hold a three-point lead at the end of one.  A GBC three would tie the score to open the second, and Kane would put CSI ahead for good moments later.  The Lightning pulled to within one multiple times before the half, but CSI would ultimately lead by five at the break, 30-25.

The Lightning cut the CSI lead to one-possession with the first points out of the locker room, but they would never trail by a single score again.  The CSI defense forced GBC into 31 turnovers, 10 of those coming in the third and a total of 19 coming in the second half.  This led to 36 CSI points off turnovers in the game, and four of the five CSI starters finished the game in double-figures.  Trailing by 14 entering the fourth, the Lightning would pull to within single-digits for just a short time.  However, the Dolphins would go on to win by the same 14-point margin, 64-50.

Kane led the Dolphins with 20 points and 10 rebounds, her first double-double of the season.  Both Arielle Barnes and Shonyae Edmonds scored 14, and Kyra Rose also finished in double-figures with 10.  Defensively, the Dolphins collected 13 steals as part of the 31 turnovers they forced in the win.  Though the Dolphins did not hit a single three-pointer in the victory, they doubled the GBC scoring in the paint, 40-20.

The Dolphins next take the court on Saturday as they visit East Stroudsburg University at 1:00 p.m..
