EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team wrapped up a two-game road stretch earlier today as the team visited East Stroudsburg University (ESU). Following a strong effort in their win over Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday, the Dolphins struggled with turnovers and poor shooting in today's loss to the Warriors.
It took the Dolphins over four minutes to score for the first time in the game, but the CSI defense held the Warriors to just six points during that stretch. Consecutive baskets by Dana Phelan brought the Dolphins to within two, 6-4, but the Warriors immediately responded with a 9-0 run to go in front by eleven. The Dolphins would remain trailing by double-digits for most of what remained in the quarter, but a Giuliana Dito three would send the game to the second with the Dolphins trailing by seven.
The second quarter only saw the ESU grow as the Dolphins scored just six points in the period and entered halftime trailing, 34-16. The Warriors lead surpassed 20 for the first time during the third quarter, and the Dolphins would not threaten the ESU advantage the rest of the way.
Phelan led the Dolphins with 9 points and was easily the most efficient CSI shooter at 4-9 from the floor. No other Dolphin recorded more than two made field goals, and CSI shot just 25% as a team. The Dolphins also were plagued by turnovers as they committed 24 in the defeat.
The Dolphins face a tough test when they return home on Tuesday as they face #10 Bentley University at 5:00 p.m..
