GARDEN CITY, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team traveled to Garden City, NY, on Wednesday evening for a non-conference matchup against Adelphi University.
The Dolphins battled with the Panthers throughout the first quarter; however, Adelphi opened the game on a 7–0 run before Arielle Barnes put CSI on the board with a pullup jumper. The Panthers continued to build their lead, going up 12–2 shortly after Barnes' basket. Despite efforts from Kyra Rose to cut into the deficit, Adelphi maintained its momentum and extended the lead to 18–5 with four minutes remaining in the quarter.
Rose kept attacking, scoring a pair of baskets that set up Racky Kane for a three-pointer to make it 20–12. Giuliana Dito followed with three of her own, and another layup from Rose brought the Dolphins within 21–17.
The second quarter proved troublesome for CSI, as the Dolphins managed just two points, both from Rose, while the Panthers added 10 more. Adelphi entered halftime with a 31–19 advantage.
The Dolphins opened the second half with their most promising stretch of the game, putting up 15 points behind the efforts of Kane, Barnes, and Rose. Rose cut the deficit to six after sinking two free throws to make it 36–30, but the Panthers responded and closed the third quarter ahead, 42–34.
In the final period, the Panthers tightened their defense and held the Dolphins to just three points, pulling away for a 54–37 non-conference victory.
