Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

DOLPHINS CAN'T ERASE HALFTIME DEFICIT IN LOSS TO SPARTANS, 94-83

Sparkill, NY - The College of Staten Island Men's Basketball Team could not overcome a halftime deficit as they fell to the Spartans of St. Thomas Aquinas College earlier today by a final score of 94-83.  The loss drops the Dolphins to 9-16 on the year and 5-8 in conference play.  The Spartans move closer to locking up the number two seed in the conference as they are now 18-8 overall and 10-3 against the ECC.

The Dolphins trailed by double-digits for the first time just seven minutes into the game and were forced to play from behind the rest of the way.  The first-half STAC lead grew as large as 14 at one point, but the Dolphins battled back to within six with 7:38 to go before halftime.  Consecutive threes by Blake Wilson and Joey Poulin ignited the CSI run, and both would go on to hit two threes in the half.  Aaron Goldstein would also score seven during the first 20 minutes of the game helping the Dolphins to remain within ten at the break.

The Dolphins remained within striking distance for the first ten minutes coming out of halftime, but they were never able to get within two possessions.  Finally, the Spartans broke the game open around the midway point of the second half.  In just three minutes, the Spartans went on a 9-0 run to go in front by a game-high 22 points.  CSI would battle back to as close as nine points in the final 1:19, but the STAC lead was never in jeopardy as the Dolphins fell, 94-83.

JJ Chestnut led the Dolphins with 18 points and Goldstein finished with 17.  Mitchell Wiggan was the only other Dolphin in double-figures with 10 and the Dolphins shot 42% from the field as a team.  CSI finished just 10-33 from beyond the arc and allowed STAC 59% shooting.

The Dolphins are now faced with a huge game at home on Wednesday night next time out against Roberts Wesleyan University.  Tip off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
