Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

GREYHOUNDS PULL AWAY FROM DOLPHINS IN SECOND HALF OF SEASON OPENER, 3-1

Worcester, MA - The College of Staten Island Men's Soccer Team opened the 2025 season on the road earlier today as they fell to the Assumption University Greyhounds by a final score of 3-1.  The Greyhounds took the first half lead behind a 35th-minute goal, but Koray Arslan would get the Dolphins even with a second-half equalizer in the 58th minute.  However, Assumption would pull away behind consecutive goals in a three-minute span.  This allowed them to secure the 3-1 victory and a 1-0 start to their season.  The Dolphins begin the year 0-1.

The Dolphins attack applied early pressure in the first half as CSI registered four of the game's first five shots.  Three of these were on goal, all stopped by Greyhounds goalkeeper Cathal Carney.  Assumption would find the back of the net for the first time on their third shot of the match when Henrik Maehlum made it 1-0 with a 35th-minute goal.  This score would stand through the end of the first half, and the Dolphins entered the break trailing by one despite an advantage in shots.

Arslan would get the Dolphins even 13 minutes into the second half with his first goal of the season.  The sophomore delivered the equalizer on a bending ball shot from a position nearly even with the goal line.  With the score level at 1-1, the Greyhounds responded quickly with back-to-back goals in a 2:30 span.  Cody Holbert and Axel Gerremo delivered the two Assumption scores to put the home club ahead by a pair.  Meanwhile, the Dolphins recorded just one shot on target the rest of the way in the 3-1 defeat.

Peterson Larose led the Dolphins with four shots including a pair on target.  He also played 86 minutes in the defeat, one of five Dolphins to surpass 80 minutes during the match.  Seven CSI substitutions entered the game, five of whom made their CSI debut.  Six CSI starters also made the first appearance as a Dolphin in the match.  However, it was two returners, Arslan and Badr Mesrar, that joined Larose in tallying multiple shot attempts.

The Dolphins will be back in action on Tuesday when they face another NE-10 opponent in Saint Anselm College.  Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM in Manchester.
