GAME DAY: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL MATCHES UP WITH NO. 23 DAEMEN IN ECC CHAMPIONSHIP REMATCH

1/11/2026 9:00:00 AM

AMHERST, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team will enter Sunday looking for redemption against Daemen (NY) in Amherst, NY at noon. Today's contest will be an East Coast Conference Championship rematch, as the Dolphins fell to the Wildcats 76-68 in their first-ever ECC Championship appearance last year.

Championship Redemption
The Dolphins are on the hunt not only for their first win over the Wildcats, but also for redemption after an eight-point loss in last year's conference championship. Daemen opened the game with a 23-15 lead after the first quarter of play; however, the Dolphins battled back through the second and third quarters, outscoring their opponents 22-17 and 19-12, respectively, to enter the final stanza with a one-point lead, 56-55. With the lead being traded in the opening minutes of the quarter, the Dolphins tied the score at 60, but the Wildcats eventually broke through and secured the lead to claim the title.

Rose & Phelan Clicked
Kyra Rose and Dana Phelan were key contributors in the Dolphins' 49-38 victory over D'Youville on Friday evening. Rose continues to lead the team in scoring and recorded a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Phelan found her rhythm from long range, knocking down two three-pointers for 11 points. Phelan now leads the team with 17 three-point field goals made this season, while Rose leads on the boards with 112 rebounds.

Dolphins Trio Stands Strong
The Dolphins trio of Rose, Racky Kane, and Shonyae Edmonds have been consistent throughout the season, and in Friday's contest each brought something to the hardwood that led to the ECC win. As mentioned earlier, Rose led the way with a double-double, while Kane, despite scoring less than usual, controlled the boards with 10 rebounds of her own. Edmonds anchored the defense, rejecting two Saints attempts for her 12th block of the season.

Battling for ECC Seeding
Daemen currently leads the league with a 5-0 conference record, sits at 8-1 overall, and rides a four-game win streak. The Dolphins are positioned in the middle of the ECC standings with a 2-2 conference record and a 6-9 overall mark.
