GAME DAY: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL HOSTS ST. THOMAS AQUINAS AT THE TANK

1/14/2026 9:00:00 AM

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team is scheduled to host St. Thomas Aquinas (STAC) Wednesday evening at the Tank. The Dolphins are coming off a three-game week in which they finished 1-2, highlighted by an ECC win over D'Youville on Friday night, while the Spartans went 1-1 last week with a conference victory of their own over Roberts Wesleyan.

Spartans Lead the All-Time Meeting Series
The Dolphins and Spartans have met 10 times over the years, with their first official meeting coming prior to CSI's Division II era in 1982, when the Dolphins earned a 57-43 victory at the Tank. Since then, the Spartans have held the advantage in the all-time series, leading 7-2, not including the 1982 matchup. Last season in 2024-25, CSI swept the Spartans during the regular season with wins of 57-44 and 76-57. In the second meeting on Feb. 15, 2025, in Sparkill, NY, Dana Phelan caught fire from downtown, knocking down six three-pointers for 20 points, while Kyra Rose added 10 points to help lead the Dolphins to victory.

In the opening frame of that February contest, the Dolphins posted 45 points in the first half while holding the Spartans to just 10.

Dolphins Looking For Redemption
Tonight's matchup marks the second meeting of the season between the two teams. The first took place on Dec. 6, 2025, in Sparkill, NY, where the Spartans claimed a 62-58 victory after holding the Dolphins to just four points in the third quarter. CSI had four players score in double figures, led by Phelan with 16 points. Shonyae Edmonds recorded a double-double with 15 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, while Arielle Barnes and Rose each finished with 11 points. Barnes added nine rebounds, and Rose tallied two steals.

Sitting In the Middle of the Pack
As the second half of the 2025-26 season gets underway and the postseason approaches, both the Dolphins and Spartans find themselves in the middle of the ECC standings with matching 2-3 conference records. CSI holds the edge in overall record at 6-10, compared to STAC's 4-12 mark.

Individual Scoring Comparison
In individual scoring, the Dolphins feature three players averaging double figures, led by Rose at 12.6 points per game, followed by Racky Kane at 11.3 and Edmonds at 10.7. Phelan and Barnes are close behind, averaging 8.3 and 7.6 points per game, respectively. STAC has one player averaging double-digit scoring at 12.1 points per game, who also ranks fourth in the conference in rebounding at 8.2 per game, one spot ahead of Rose. The Spartans' next-highest scorers average 8.8 and 7.6 points per contest.
