DOLPHINS BOUNCE BACK AFTER ECC VICTORY OVER D'YOUVILLE

BUFFALO, NY – The College of Staten Island women's basketball team returned to East Coast Conference (ECC) action on Friday night, traveling to Buffalo, NY to face D'Youville University. A dominant second-half performance propelled the Dolphins to a 49–38 victory, improving their record to 6–9 overall and 2–2 in conference play.

The Saints controlled the opening quarter, holding CSI to just six points, with Shonyae Edmonds and Kyra Rose accounting for the Dolphins' scoring. Rose's first basket of the game briefly gave CSI a 6–4 lead, but D'Youville responded with a 7–0 run to take an 11–6 advantage at the end of the first.

Jasanii Francis-Torres opened the second quarter with a basket to spark the Dolphins' offense, setting the stage for Dana Phelan's three-pointer and another pair of buckets from Rose to tie the game at 15. Francis-Torres followed with a go-ahead score, and the Dolphins continued to build momentum behind Edmonds, Rose, and Racky Kane. CSI closed the half on a strong run, extending its lead to 26–16 with one minute remaining before halftime.

After being limited to six points in the opening quarter, the Dolphins flipped the script defensively, allowing the Saints just six points in the entire second quarter to carry a 10-point lead into the break.

The teams played evenly over the final two quarters, with CSI outscoring D'Youville by one point in each frame. In the third quarter, Phelan and Rose helped the Dolphins maintain an 11-point cushion before Kane pushed the lead to 15, 37–22.

D'Youville mounted a comeback attempt in the fourth, opening the period with a 7–0 run to cut the deficit to 37–34. Arielle Barnes halted the run with a basket in the paint, and Rose followed by converting two free throws to restore a seven-point lead, 41–34, with just over three minutes remaining. The Saints were forced to foul down the stretch, but the Dolphins were steady at the line, going 6-of-7 from the free-throw stripe to seal the 49–38 win.

Rose led the Dolphins with a double-double of 14 points and 13 rebounds. Phelan added 11 points, shooting 2-for-3 from beyond the arc, and led the team with three steals. Kane contributed seven points, 10 rebounds, and two steals, while Edmonds anchored the defense with two blocks.

The College of Staten Island women's basketball team returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 11, when it faces Daemen (NY) in Amherst, NY at 1:00 PM.
