STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island women's soccer team welcomes Mercy University to Dolphins Soccer Park on Saturday afternoon for its Senior Day celebration. Prior to kickoff, the Dolphins will honor seven seniors: Riley Hammond, Caitlyn Thompson, Sydney Brown, Joana Ruiz, Mazzy Cirinelli, Millie Hunt, and Gabriela Castro.
2025 Meeting Recap:
The last meeting between the two teams took place in Dobbs Ferry, NY, where the Dolphins fell to the Mavericks, 2-0. Mercy applied offensive pressure early, recording two shots in the opening minutes, both of which were stopped by Oskana Zahirna. Thompson recorded the Dolphins' first shot of the contest, and her second attempt was on target but was turned away by the Mavericks' goalkeeper.
Despite the Dolphins' defensive efforts, Mercy continued to generate scoring opportunities, eventually finding the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead at halftime. The Mavericks maintained their momentum in the second half, adding another goal to secure the 2-0 victory. With the loss, the Dolphins fell to 0-5 all-time against Mercy.
2026 Dolphins Statistics Overview:
The Dolphins enter Saturday's matchup battling for their first East Coast Conference (ECC) playoff berth in their Division II history. A draw against the Mavericks would secure CSI's first-ever Division II postseason appearance. Thompson leads the Dolphins offensively with seven points on three goals and one assist. Mia Cole leads the team in assists with two, while Addison Lucy ranks second on the squad in points with three, recording one goal and one assist.
Zahirna is putting together a career-best season in goal and currently ranks second in the CSI women's soccer Division II record book for saves in a single season with 79. Following the Dolphins' draw against Queens College last week, she has recorded two wins and three shutouts. Zahirna has also logged 810 minutes in goal this season.
2026 Mavericks Statistics Overview:
Mercy enters Saturday's contest atop the ECC standings with its postseason berth already secured. The Mavericks opened the season ranked No. 25 nationally and climbed to No. 9 following the first week of competition. Since then, they have received votes in the national rankings but have not returned to the top 25. The Mavericks hold a 9-3-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in conference play. Their lone ECC loss came against Molloy University on October 10.
Mercy is led by an offensive standout who has recorded 23 points on 10 goals and three assists. Three additional players have reached double-digit points, totaling 13 points (five goals, three assists), 11 points (three goals, five assists), and 10 points (two goals, six assists), respectively.
The Mavericks have utilized four goalkeepers throughout the season. Their primary goalkeeper has appeared in nine games, making eight starts and recording 21 saves. Their secondary goalkeeper has appeared in the same number of games and leads the group with 26 saves.
Overall Meeting Review:
The Dolphins are not only looking to secure a postseason berth but also to earn their first win or draw against the Mavericks since CSI transitioned to Division II. Mercy has won all five previous meetings between the programs, and the Dolphins will look to make history on Senior Day as they close out their regular-season home schedule.
