STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island men's basketball team hosted No. 4 Daemen University (N.Y.) at The Tank on Sunday afternoon, putting its undefeated home record on the line. CSI trailed 35–28 at halftime and ultimately suffered its first home loss of the season, falling 89–75.
Despite the setback, junior Aaron Goldstein reached a major milestone, setting the program's single-season scoring record with 516 points during the 2025–26 campaign. Goldstein finished second on the team in scoring in the East Coast Conference (ECC) matchup.
Daemen scored the opening basket and quickly built a 4–0 lead within the first two minutes. Eric Tynes knocked down the Dolphins' first three-pointer to get CSI on the board, and JJ Chestnut followed with a basket to keep the Wildcats within reach, 6–5. Daemen responded with a 9–1 run to extend its lead to 15–6 before Andrew Benedict connected from beyond the arc to trim the deficit to six, 15–9.
The Dolphins continued to battle throughout the first half, cutting the deficit to two on a Goldstein and-one and again on a Chestnut three-pointer. Each time, Daemen answered, and the Wildcats carried a 35–28 advantage into the break.
In the second half, Daemen outscored CSI 54–47 and pushed the lead to as many as 20 points late in the game. The Dolphins received strong efforts from Chestnut, Benedict, Goldstein, Mitchell Wiggan, Asa Kone, and Leiton Woods but were unable to overcome the deficit, falling 89–75.
Chestnut led all scorers with 18 points and added four assists. Goldstein and Benedict each finished with 16 points, while Wiggan chipped in 15.
The College of Staten Island men's basketball team (17–7, 8–4 ECC) returns to The Tank on Saturday, Feb. 14, for Alumni Day, hosting the University of the District of Columbia at 1:00 PM.
