FLUSHING, NY – The College of Staten Island softball team opened East Coast Conference (ECC) play on Friday afternoon with a doubleheader against Queens College.
The Dolphins earned their first conference sweep of the season, taking both games by scores of 3-2 and 2-0 to improve to 7-9 overall and 2-0 in ECC play.
Game One: CSI 3, Queens 2
Jianna Lopez sparked the Dolphins in game one, drawing a walk for the team's first baserunner of the day. Madilyn Paul followed with a bunt to move Lopez into scoring position, and after the bases were loaded, Bridget Motley brought Lopez home on a sacrifice fly to give CSI a 1-0 lead. Paul later crossed the plate on a wild pitch to extend the advantage to 2-0 in the opening inning. Queens answered in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to even the game.
Both teams were held scoreless through the middle innings until Paul ignited the sixth with a leadoff stand-up double. The sophomore then stole third and capitalized on a Knights error to score the go-ahead run, securing the 3-2 victory.
Paul led the Dolphins, going 3-for-3 with two runs scored, while Abbie Morris added a 2-for-3 performance. Motley finished 1-for-2 with the team's lone RBI Kennedie Ruth earned her second win in the circle, tossing a complete game with three strikeouts.
Game Two: CSI 2, Queens 0
The Dolphins completed the sweep with a 2-0 shutout, marking their first shutout victory of the 2026 season.
After a scoreless start, CSI broke through in the sixth inning when Lopez led off with a single to left field and later scored on a Morris groundout. In the seventh, Julia Del Masto reached on a Queens error and came around to score on an RBI single from Lopez to make it 2-0.
Marena Grenier closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh, stranding a runner to seal the win. Lopez paced the offense again, going a perfect 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Aliveah Warner added two hits. Grenier earned the complete-game victory, striking out one.
The Dolphins return to ECC play on Saturday afternoon when they host Molloy University at the CSI Softball Complex at 12:00 PM.
