DOLPHINS HANDED A PAIR OF ECC LOSSES BY SPARTANS

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island softball team returned home Saturday afternoon for its second straight East Coast Conference (ECC) doubleheader, hosting St. Thomas Aquinas at the CSI Softball Complex.

The Dolphins dropped both contests, 8-0 (five innings) and 6-2, falling to 9-15 overall and 4-6 in conference play.

Game One: STAC 8, CSI 0 (5 Innings)
The Dolphins and Spartans were locked in a scoreless battle through the first inning before St. Thomas Aquinas broke through with two runs in the top of the second to take an early 2-0 lead.

Bridget Motley led off the bottom half of the inning with a single, but CSI was unable to capitalize, leaving her stranded after three consecutive outs.

The Spartans added another run in the fourth to extend their lead to 3-0. Madilyn Paul responded with a single up the middle in the bottom half, and Taryn Judson kept the inning alive with a double, but once again the Dolphins were unable to push a run across.

St. Thomas Aquinas broke the game open in the fifth, scoring five runs to secure an 8-0 victory and end the contest early.

Motley, Paul, Judson, Aliveah Warner, and Jianna Lopez each recorded a hit for CSI. Kennedie Ruth started in the circle, pitching 4.1 innings with one strikeout.

Game Two: STAC 6, CSI 2
The Spartans carried their momentum into game two, scoring two runs in the second inning and adding two more in the third to build a 4-0 advantage.

St. Thomas Aquinas extended its lead to 5-0 before the Dolphins responded in the bottom of the fifth. Emily Reilly and Presley Borne opened the inning with back-to-back singles, setting the stage for Jianna Lopez, who delivered a two-run triple, her second of the season, to put CSI on the board.

The Spartans added an insurance run later in the game to seal a 6-2 win and complete the doubleheader sweep.

Lopez led the Dolphins offensively in game two with two RBI, while Reilly, Borne, Judson, and Emma O'Neill each added a hit. Marena Grenier went 6.1 innings in the circle, recording four strikeouts.

The Dolphins return to action on Wednesday, April 15, when they travel to face Molloy University at 3:30 p.m.
