DOLPHINS SWEEP QUEENS IN SHUTOUT FASHION; WARNER RECORDS 100TH CAREER HIT

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island softball team hosted Queens College on Saturday afternoon at the CSI Softball Complex for the final doubleheader of their regular-season series.

The Dolphins completed the series sweep with a pair of shutout victories, 4-0 and 2-0, improving to 12-16 overall and 7-7 in East Coast Conference play.

Game One: CSI 4, Queens 0
Mariena Grenier came within one out of a no-hitter as the Dolphins backed her with four runs to secure the win.

CSI put runners on base in each of the first two innings but could not capitalize. That changed in the third inning when Aliveah Warner delivered a milestone moment, ripping a double for her 100th career hit and driving in two runs for a 2-0 lead. Bridget Motley followed with an RBI to score Warner and extend the advantage to 3-0.

Warner struck again in the fifth, hitting her second double of the game to bring home Madilyn Paul, who reached on a walk, for the Dolphins' fourth run.

Grenier finished the game allowing just one hit while striking out four to earn her seventh win of the season. Warner led the offense with three RBI on two doubles, while Abbie Morris and Taryn Judson each went 2-3 at the plate.

Game Two: CSI 2, Queens 0
The Dolphins completed the sweep with another strong defensive effort, holding the Knights scoreless in a 2-0 victory.

CSI got on the board early when Jianna Lopez doubled and later scored on a bunt by Paul to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead. The game settled into a pitchers' duel, with both teams held scoreless over the next four innings.

In the sixth, Warner drew a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Emma O'Neill. With two outs, Milene Mendoza delivered a hard-hit single to the outfield, allowing O'Neill to score the Dolphins' second and final run.

Lopez led the offense with two hits, while Mendoza recorded the RBI. Kennedie Ruth earned the shutout victory in the circle, striking out three.

CSI returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 25, when they travel to Buffalo, NY to take on D'Youville University at 12:00 PM.
