In his 12th season at CSI as Dr. Stella Porto's assistant coach, Mattera's predominant responsibility has been as the team's batting coach. His coaching experience dates back to softball programs with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), little league and travel teams at several levels.
Coach Mattera has given numerous softball clinics at all levels, including the PSAL softball coaches.
He is a father of four daughters who work in various fields including a school principal, a NYC police officer, a banker, and a law student.
As a retired NYPD detective with over 25 years of service, Coach Mattera has stressed teamwork, dedication and a strong sense of accomplishment through athletics and academics.
