Krysta Kinsella was named the College of Staten Island’s Female Athlete of the Month for April 2008. Kinsella is a freshman pitcher on the Women’s Softball team from New Jersey.
With only one returning pitcher from last season, Kinsella arrived just in time to help the Dolphins. She has captured 12 wins this season pitching 27 games for CSI. With an E.R.A. of 2.89, good enough for 3rd in the CUNYAC, she also tallied 95 strikeouts, putting her fourth in the CUNYAC.
Kinsella opened April with four straight wins against John Jay twice, Lehman and Polytechnic University. In the first half of the doubleheader against John Jay, she struck out 5 while only allowing two hits. Pitching in the second half, Kinsella struck out nine. In CSI’s 12-2 win over Lehman, she finished the game with 7 strikeouts and allowing no earned runs.
The Dolphins were seeded No. 2 in the CUNYAC, facing Baruch College in the first round of the playoffs. Despite the loss, Kinsella completed the game for the Dolphins. Facing John Jay, Kinsella came in the top of the 4th to relieve Kari Drew Varriale taking the win for CSI allowing just one run. With a 2 game elimination, CSI’s season ended with a loss to Hunter College the next day despite Kinsella’s efforts.
As a freshman, Kinsella has a few more years to improve upon her already strong wind-up and help the Dolphins to more successful seasons and CUNYAC victories.
